About Mewali

Mewali is a place in the making. Among the olive trees, close to historic Elvas in the heart of the Alentejo, we are building a small-scale glamping retreat step by step, where calm, nature and attention to detail take centre stage. While the project is still very much under construction, the vision takes shape a little more every day.

Mewali is not a place to withdraw from the world, but a peaceful base in the middle of a surprisingly varied region. By day you explore marble towns, wine estates, walking trails or the water of Lake Alqueva; in the evening you come home to a place where you can truly unwind.

Mewali is an adults-only retreat: small-scale, personal and surrounded by the wide, golden landscapes of Portugal. Behind Mewali are Nicole and Albert. Built with love and dedication, they welcome you as their guest with open arms.

Two worlds, one philosophy of calm. Choose the colourful luxury of our safari tents or the light, Mediterranean feel of our apartments. Mewali is an adults-only retreat and a serene place where quiet, space and comfort set the tone.

Safari Tents

Our five safari tents are set among the olive groves, each with ample privacy and views over the rolling hills. Furnished more spaciously and colourfully than you would expect from a safari tent: beautiful furniture, warm colours and comfort you would not expect outdoors.

Our two apartments breathe a light, Mediterranean Ibiza feel: plenty of white and cream, natural wood and soft tones, with handcrafted details and an abundance of daylight.

Pets Welcome

At Mewali, well-behaved adult dogs are warmly welcome. We believe that true rest also means not having to leave your loyal companion behind. To preserve the tranquillity for everyone, we only ask that dogs stay on a lead in the shared areas.

Mewali sits in the middle of a region far more varied than you might expect. Marble towns, medieval forts, wine estates, pottery villages and one of the largest reservoirs in Europe are all a short drive away.
